National Police Workshops: “Internet safety” for Year 5

Our Year 5 pupils have attended a workshop this week with the National Police to discuss the main dangers they face on the Internet.

As a summary of the workshop, we have some advice for our young internet users:

  1. Never give your name, don’t say where you live or what your parents’ names are, don’t send photographs of yourself or your family.
  2. If someone says something uncomfortable or upsetting to you, tell your parents quickly.
  3. Do not take compromising photographs or share them, under any circumstances. If you feel pressured to do so, you should report it.
  4. Never meet anyone you have met on the Internet without your parents’ knowledge and permission.
  5. Do not download any program or screensaver without your parents’ knowledge, even if the page says it is free.
  6. Do not download logos or mobile phone ringtones, even if they appear to be free. Check with your parents first.
  7. Do not download films or music. They can damage your computer through these sites.
  8. Be very careful to respect the minimum ages for downloading applications.
