Trip to Prehistory for Year 3 pupils: The Parpalló cave

In order to reinforce the knowledge acquired about Prehistory this first term we have organised a fun trip to the Cova del Parpalló for Year 3 pupils.

The Cova del Parpalló is a vital site for learning about prehistory in our region, being one of the most important Upper Palaeolithic caves in the world where a collection of rock art plaques have been found.

We believe that this is a magnificent opportunity for the students to see part of the content studied and to reinforce the content seen during the first term of the TOPIC “Meet the Flinstones”, in one of the caves catalogued as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and included in the UNESCO World Heritage list of the Rock Art of the Mediterranean arc of the Iberian Peninsula.

The activity consisted of an expedition to the cave, supported by a viewing of interactive videos and a didactic workshop, with the main objective of familiarising students with the basic concepts of archaeological methodology, getting to know our archaeological heritage, and understanding our past through artistic manifestations of prehistoric society, learning what their artistic techniques were like.
