Year 5 pupils took part in a workshop run by the National Police, with the intention of learning about the main risks they face online.
As a summary of the workshop, here are some tips for our young users:
- Do not disclose personal information about yourself or your family. Always avoid sending photographs.
- If something makes you feel uncomfortable, tell your parents or family members quickly so that they can help you with the situation.
- Do not take or send compromising photographs under any circumstances. If you feel pressured to do so, get help and report it.
- Do not physically meet with people you have met on the Internet without your parents’ consent.
- Don’t download software or screensavers without your parents’ permission, even if they are advertised as free.
- Check with your parents before downloading logos or ringtones for your mobile phone, even if they appear to be free.
- Avoid downloading movies or music from unauthorised websites, as they may contain viruses and damage your computer.
- Make sure you respect the minimum age requirements for downloading applications online.
