Year 10 students experiment with enzymes in the school lab

Year 10 students explored the function of the “catalase” enzyme found in potatoes and how its activity can be used to remove the toxicity from hydrogen peroxide.

The reaction can change speed if we modify the experimental conditions. The students observed how small changes in temperature and pH modulated enzymatic activity, thus consolidating their theoretical understanding of the subject.

This experience provided them with a more detailed appreciation of biomolecules and also prepared them for future scientific research.
