‘Tío de la Porra’ visits us and kicks off the Fira i Festes de Gandia

Last Friday, the students at the British School Gandia experienced a very special moment: we received a visit from the traditional Tío de la Porra, who, as he visits the city’s schools, officially announces the start of the Fira i Festes.

With his characteristic drum, band and festive presence, Tío de la Porra symbolises the arrival of the festivities and is responsible for ‘freeing’ schoolchildren from their classrooms so that they can take part in the celebrations.

It was a morning full of joy, music, tradition and excitement.
