Culinary Prize 2022

This month we held the “Culinary Prize” competition, in which our pupils were able to show who had the best recipe for a healthy breakfast.

All pupils from British School Alzira, Xàtiva and Gandia could participate by sending in a video of their recipes in order to be eligible for prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd place).

We received many entries and, from all the recipes, the competition judge, Alberto Pastor Rius*, selected 10 finalists to compete for the prizes. These recipes were published on our instagram @colegiosbritanicos for the popular jury (all our followers) to vote for their favourite recipe and after the success of participation and a very close competition with hundreds of votes, we can announce the winners of this edition:

  • In 3rd place we have…… The delicious “Creamy yoghurt cups with kiwi, apple and pistachio and walnut base with coconut aroma“, made by our Chef PAU GONZÁLEZ, from the BSA.
  • 2nd place goes to ….. The super breakfast “Orange cake, coffee milk, nuts & kiwi“, prepared by our Chef MARTINA DONET, from the BSG.
  • And the 1st place goes to ….. The wonderful healthy breakfast “For children and Tyrannosaurus Rex“, by our little Grand Chef MARTÍN PAREDES, from the BSG, who has won as a prize a Chef’s jacket with his name engraved on it.

Thank you very much to all of you for participating and contributing your magnificent recipes, thanks also to all of you who have voted for your favourite recipe.

Congratulations to the winners, and also to all the participants, because the competition has been of a very high level.

We hope that you will continue to prepare such succulent and healthy recipes.

*Alberto Pastor Rius has developed his professional career over the last two decades in the field of school food. He is the chef who was in charge of the British Council School in Madrid for 8 years, and subsequently took on the responsibility of Executive Chef of a food management group in schools for the central area of Spain, this being the position he holds to date.

He has trained, among other schools, at the Basque Culinary Center. In 2020 he was the winner of the I Culinary Cup Iberia, representing Spain in this prestigious worldwide competition.

Alberto Pastor: “I would like to congratulate the British School Alzira, Xàtiva & Gandia for their initiative and above all the students for their participation; I’m sure that a great chef will come out of this competition!

And the most important thing of all: a healthy breakfast should not only be the reason to record a video and participate in a competition, but it should be a daily habit as it has many benefits:

Improved concentration

Improved intellectual and physical performance

Activation of the metabolism

Reduction of cardiovascular diseases

And if we do it as a family, it fosters family bonds through food.

Greetings to all the families of the British School Alzira, Xàtiva & Gandia and thank you very much for letting me be part of this initiative”.
